Solid Night at Peterborough Speedway

     July 23rd, 2009 - Arnprior, Ontario.

Round 2 of the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup found the team at Peterborough Speedway for the Remax100.  Dave and the team unloaded the car to find out the throw out  bearing seals were damaged and the car wouldn't go into gear.  The team quickly pulled the transmission out of the car replaced the seals and put everything back into the car.

First practice found the car alittle loose and the team started making adjustments to tighten the car up.  In qualifying the car was still loose and Dave ended up qualifying in 8th spot for the 1st feature race.  The team made another track bar adjustment to tighten the car up for the first race.

Dave started in the 3rd spot on the inside row and the field roared into turn 1 with the #32 of Mike Alguire and the #96 of Dan Prudhomme in 2nd place.  "Mike and Dan were banging off each other like it was the last lap, I kept trying to stick my nose in on Dan but he was bound and determined to try and rip the nose off the front  of my car and wreck us both" stated Dave.  "I chased them around the track as the guys behind battled hard and continued to cause cautions and wreck themselves - I was still struggling with getting the car to hook up off the corner, finally Steve Robblee caught me and I fought hard on the bottom and we banged a few times in 3 and 4.  He finally pushed me hard and I slid up the track and he slipped through, I managed to hang on and keep 4th spot".

Dave started the 2nd race in 6th spot with the inversion and the field roared into turn 1 - Dave pressed hard and the race ran green for 45 laps and Dave found himself in the 4th spot.  With 5 laps to go the 2nd place car of Tim Tolton had a lower rad hose failure spewing water all over the race track as the field chased him into turn 3.  The resulting crash took out half the field and Dave went spinning into the infield barely keeping the car off the outside wall.

"I nailed the throttle when it started to spin and managed to keep it off the wall, I did a 360 and kept it going and managed to get onto the front straight prior to the red flag" said Dave

It took 25 minutes to clean up the carnage but with 5 laps to go Dave was sitting in 2nd place - things looked great until a Speedway official walked up to the car and informed Dave that he had a flat left rear tire.  When the pace car picked up the field again Dave peeled off into the pits where the Schneiders pit crew put on a fresh left rear and Dave pulled onto the track at the tail end of the field.

What was left of the field took the green and Dave pressed hard passing the #12 going into turn 1 and chased the #36 going into 3 and 4.  Dave managed to get to 5th spot on the last lap and chased the leaders down the back straight - the front group were fighting hard going 3 wide with the 11 of Cole Weber trying to find somewhere to go.  Dave dove on the inside as they came off turn 4 and desperately tried to make up spots.

Shawn McGlynn managed to steal the victory and the 4 others cars went four wide for 2nd spot.  Although by less than .05 of a second Dave ended up in 5th spot in the race.
