Connelly moves to the 2nd place in the Championship!

Aug 5th, 2009 – After 6 races Dave and the Schneiders/Metro Race Team is hitting their stride and move into 2nd place in the 2009 Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Championship.  The Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup is Ontario ’s #1 stockcar touring series.

The team headed to Flamboro Speedway last weekend for round 6 and 7 in the Championship.  Dave unloaded the #82 and posted the 2nd fastest time in practice with the car a little tight in the centre of the corner.  The team opted for a small adjustment prior to qualifying to try and free it so the car would rotate better.

“We tried to make a small adjustment and it totally backfired – the car was way too loose off the corner – we qualified 13th almost half a second off our practice time.  So the question was do we try and make the best of it or make a change and go to the tail of the field and start 21st” stated Dave.  “Well we rolled the dice and made the change and started dead last – and did it ever pay off” laughed Dave.

Dave started last in the first race and immediately charged to the front passing 9 cars in the first 10 laps.  An early caution bunched the field up and Dave found himself sitting in 12th spot with 40 laps to go.

“The car was great on the outside – it takes longer to make the pass but the car was so good I just kept the car up there and nailed the throttle” smiled Dave.

Dave managed to fight his way up to 3rd position when the checker flag fell on lap 50.

“We started in 8th spot for the 2nd race and got shuffled back to 12th on the outside then the car started working again up top and away I went.  I fought back up to 3rd again and if I had 2 more laps I’m sure I could’ve won the race” said Dave.  “We’ll take it – it was a great points day we came into here 5th overall and we’re leaving in 2nd place in the Championship.”

Dave’s next race is in Ottawa at Capital City Speedway this weekend which is the team’s home track and they expect great results in front of the hometown crowd.
