Connelly holds 2nd heading into last 2 races!

Aug 30th, 2009 – Rounds 4&5 of the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup found the Schneiders Race Team at Capital City Speedway in Ottawa and Sauble Speedway.

Dave was extremely fast in Ottawa qualifying 2nd and leading the most laps in the first race with an epic fight with current points leader Steve Robblee.  Steve and Dave tangled numerous times until the final restart with 9 to go when the two tangled in turn 2 and Steve slipped by, Dave put the bumper to Steve in the middle of 3 and 4 and tried to slip underneath him off turn 4 but Steve managed to shut the door and hold onto the top spot .  On the final restart Dave ended up on the outside and the 96 of Dan Prudhomme slipped through with Dave coming across 3rd at the finish line.  The second race of the night saw Dave fighting for the lead the entire race until Dave was spun into the infield after contact with a lap down car - Dave did a 360 down the infield but managed to keep the car going and slide out onto the racetrack losing only 2 spots to the cheers of the fans.  Dave charged again and managed a 4th place finish after the spin.

Sauble was another good night with Dave fighting with the leaders the entire race until with 3 laps to go Dave cut a front left tire after contact with the 27 car.  Dave managed to duck into the pits and get a new tire but had to start last with less than 3 laps he still managed to fight his way up to 8th spot at the checker.  The 2nd 50 Dave got out front early leading from lap 1 to lap 28 when Steve finally caught Dave and managed to slip through.  "The car picked up a push in the centre and I just couldn't get off the corner the same - we lost our proper stagger we had in the first race when we cut down the tire.  We took a pretty wild stab at the set up and we got really close."

Dave has scored 8 top 5's in the 10 races so far this season and currently sits 2nd overall in the 2009 Championship with 447 points.  A 23 point cushion exists over 3rd place Dan Prudhomme and Dave is chasing 12 time Champion Steve Robblee for first place.

"Delaware Speedway is the key for us" states Dave.  "Frankly we were terrible last year, granted we had a throttle stick open in the first race and no power steering in the 2nd race, but we just weren't that good.  This is the home turf for all these guys and there's no doubt they will all be strong.  We're expecting 24 cars so we have to get up front and fight hard.  We're testing on Friday prior to the race so hopefully that'll go well and we can learn a few things".
